Movement of the Checkers

After setting up the board each player throws a single die. High roller starts first and plays the current dice on the board. Let’s say player A rolled a 4 and player B rolled a 5. This means player B will start the game with a roll of 5-4. If equal number is rolled, both players roll again. After the initial roll each player rolls two dice on alternate turns.

Each dice is a move for a checker equals that number. When you are playing a 5-4 roll, you can move one checker 5 points to an unoccupied point, a point occupied by your checkers or a point occupied by your opponents single checker which called a blot. You can play 5 and 4 points with different checkers or you can play both rolls with the same checker. You cannot move to points occupied by two or more opposing checkers.

At the point where you roll a double which might be a 5-5, 6-6 or even 1-1, this means that you can play four times that number; four times 5, four times 6, four times 1.

  1. 1 Figure 3. Alternative ways to play a dice of [5] [3] .

A player must use both numbers of a roll if this is legally possible (or all four numbers of a double). When only one number can be played, the player must play that number. Or if either number can be played but not both, the player must play the larger one. When neither number can be used, the player loses his turn. In the case of doubles, when all four numbers cannot be played, the player must play as many numbers as he can.
